We said ‘YES’ to the Whisper

We said ‘YES’ to the Whisper

In less than 30 days, Whit, Maverick, and I are moving to Cape Town, South Africa.

That sentence still feels strange to say. Not because we’re unsure—though, to be honest, we wrestled with that—but because it wasn’t part of some strategic plan. It wasn’t driven by logic, or opportunity, or comfort.

It came as a whisper. Not loud. Not forceful. But steady. And in the end… undeniable.

If you've ever felt the kind of pull that bypasses your spreadsheet and settles deep in your spirit, you get it.

This wasn’t a decision we made lightly. In fact, it’s one of the most costly decisions we’ve made. Not because of the miles or the money. But because of the moment you realize your yes might not make sense to people you love.

That’s the cost of this kind of calling: not just going, but going without certainty.

Going with a quiet "I think this is Him."Going with unanswered questions and unprovable convictions.Going when the people who love you most raise good, thoughtful concerns that you don’t know how to answer.

And yet… still going.

We’ve learned that this is how many of God’s invitations show up. Not with a map, but with a whisper. Not with a five-point plan, but with a flicker of peace that refuses to be ignored.

Jesus told a story in Matthew 22 about a king who threw a wedding feast. Everyone was invited. Some ignored the call. Others made excuses. But a few came, just a few, who accepted the invitation, even when it felt inconvenient, disruptive, or strange.

“Many are invited,” He said, “but few are chosen.”

That verse used to sound exclusive. Like God had favorites.

But what if it’s not about favoritism at all? What if it’s about response?

What if the “chosen” are simply the ones who said yes—even when it cost them something?

We’ve said yes to this whisper. Not because we’re brave. Not because we’re certain. Not because we have a perfect answer to every “Are you sure?”

But because deep down, we believe this is what faith looks like.

Faith doesn’t silence your doubt.Faith doesn’t erase your fear.Sometimes, faith just shows up with trembling hands and says, “Even if I’m misunderstood, even if I can’t explain it all—I trust the One who’s calling.”

And if you’re in a season like that.  If you’re staring down a decision that doesn’t add up on paper but won’t stop tugging on your heart, this is your encouragement:

You’re not crazy. You’re not alone. And you don’t need 100% certainty to take the next step.

Reminds me of a great lyric from the song ‘Moonflower’ by Abbie Gamboa

Why did I start to think I can't walk if I can't see? When did I forget to need You?

I get this image of her like, “Wait - when did this happen?  When did I start needing all the answers to step forward?”  It paints a picture of someone who knows there's a WAY more fun way to live:

You recognize His voice and say yes …Even if He whispers.
